Kapa Haka

 We lined up in our lines we were getting ready for Kapa Haka. We waited for a little bit and then all of the sudden we started singing unti na.

I think that it would be a little bit boring for you guys to read all of the words to the song so thats why ill quickly catch you up on whats going on. The festival couldn't go a head so that why we have a professional videographer in to film us doing our Kapa Haka. We finished the song. Now it was time for the next song ka waiata.

After a couple more songs it was time for the haka. The boy had made there way ford in the previous song Ka panapana. Personally I find the haka quite nerve racking mainly because the boys are at the front. We did the haka really well. After the haka we did one more song called toia mai. This had been a very fun Kapa Haka.

  

The green team

The crayfish nana walked out on to the stage of Ilminster school gisborne with its grandchildren and started telling them a story about when the aliens came to town. The story was about how the aliens planet had already been full of trash and they needed a new place to dump there trash.

So they decided to start dumping there trash in our earths planet. Then 4 kids wanted to play on the skate but they couldn't because all the trash was there. Anyway it was a really cool play with lots of humour and the actors were great. The team that performed were called the green team.

The play really inspired me to not litter on our planet because then we will have to find some where else to dump out trash. I really enjoyed the show an I bet others around me did to.

SPaG

 Today was spag. I walked down to the mat with my scissors. The teacher said that we were going to be doing some murder mystery SPaG. The task was that we have to make a rectangle using well known sayings sometimes known as proverbs.

I was in a group with Bramm,Olly,Archie and me. It was quite hard to make the rectangle but we somehow managed to get it done. It was mainly hard because some of the sayings nobody knew witch made it hard match them together.

We were the second group finished witch meant that we got to go out to brain break 3 mins early. This had been a very fun murder mystery SPaG. 

High modality

 

High modality is words like certain must and have to. It is pretty much words that make you do something. Low modality would be like unlikely.

Awa walk

Koka rozie opened the gate. We were going on a walk up Hamunatu Stream to were it started I couldn't wait. We crossed the stream. Everyone go across fine except for Tre who fell in. We started walking. It was very muddy and there were lots of cows.

After we had waled for about 30 mins we stopped for a snack. After We had finished our snack we continued to walk for another hour. We stopped for lunch at the start of the stream. At the start of the stream it is very shallow and narrow. It was also quite clear.

After a 15 minute lunch break we walked back. We didn't have any stops on the way back. We crossed the stream again but this time I FELL IN!!! Neko also fell in too. Soon we were back at school were got changed into our spear clothes. It had been such a fun day and I can't wait to do it again.  

Gillies cup

I jumped into my mums silver car. We were going to the gillies cup match. We were facing mangapapa at there school. It was a rainy day. We were facing mangapapa because we faced them last year for the gillies cup and they bet us.

So we challenged them for a rematch. It takes at least 15 minutes to get to mangapapa school but we were early so I was allowed to get a hot chocolate. At about 11:20 we arrived but the kick of wasn't until 11:45 so we did some warm up. 

At about 11:40 we lined up in our positions and waited for mangapapa to get into their positions.Then we started. It was a good match. they played much better then they did in the other matches that we played them in. We won 5-1. I was so exited that we had won the gillies cup.                                         

6 th

 It was cross country day. I lined up with all of the other kids. We started walking down to the cause I couldn't wait to do the race. Soon we were at the cross country course. We watched the year 6s run but not for long because we had to line up at the starting line.

On your marks get set GO! We were of. For our cross country you have to run 2km. I was in 1st but I was getting token over. After about 800m I was in 4 th. I stayed in 4th for a long time but with about 150m to go I got token over again.

I was still like 5th thats a better result then last year. (I got 6th last year) but then with about 10m to go I got token over again. I was pretty disappointed with myself but at least I tried my hardest. 

Magic show

 Today we went over to the hall for a magic show. I was really excited because I love magic shows. We walked into the hall and all you could hear was this loud dramatic music. The stage had been set up with boxes and all of the things he needed to perform magic tricks.

He started performing  magic tricks. I liked the ones where he'd make fire in a container shut the lid open the lid and then a bird would come flying out. I also like the ones where he'd put a bird into a container shut the lid open the lid and then a rabbit would come out don't ask me were the bird went.

I quite liked the ones where he'd put a rubix cube into a box shut the lid open the lid and there would be several rubix cubes. I don't no about everybody else but I really liked that magic show and I really hope that he can come again. 

Lockdown 2.0

 It was Friday but still just another day of lockdown. I went into the kitchen and got myself some breakfast. I gobbled up my breakfast and then went to go get ready for another online learning day. I checked what meet I had on today and realized that I had a writing meet with koka pip.

My meet was at 1pm-1:30pm. I did my independent tasks up until then. I was a couple minutes late to that workshop but it didn't really mater because there wasn't really that much that I needed to catch up on. Koka pip started talking...

She said that today's workshop was all about opinion. We had to chose if we thought animals  belong in a zoo or not. I said that they should because there safe from all predators but I also thought that they shouldn't because its kind of cruel to take them from there families. Koka Pip also gave us a task to do. This had been such a fun online workshop bring on the next one.     

Mangaone station

 I was so exited. Today we were going to Mangaone station. (Mangaone station is Cory's farm). I hopped out of the car and sprinted to were everyone was grouped up. We went up the stairs and into the sharing shed were Corys mum and dad were going to talk to us about the farm.

They said that the wetland had been started by there daughter Natalie. They said that today we were going to plant and mulch the plants around the wetland. We grabbed the plants and started planting them it was so much fun.

After we had finished planting and mulching the plants we had a break. Then we got to go see baby little lambs. We got to pick them up they were so cute and fluffy. It had been such a funday at Corys farm and I cant wait to do it again.

MMM

 I was about to go to a MMM  workshop. MMM stands for murder mysterie math. in MMM we have to crack cods and find out who kills who and for this one where the diamonds are hidden. 

We arrived out our work shop. Koka Ngaire explained that we have to solve the problems using Y and x axis. I got together with Rori, Cash,Max and me. Then we got started.

We zoomed through the questions then started using the Y and X axis. That was a bit  challenging but we still got through it. At the end the clue said the diamonds are in the toilet. It had been such a fun workshop and I cant wait to do it again

Profeshanial SPaG

 I sprinted down to my spag workshop. Today the teacher said that this workshop was going to be really fun. I arrived at the mat and found out that we were going to be doing murder mystery spag. Murder mystery spag is pretty much a puzzle that you have to solve and at the end you figure out who killed who.

Our teacher gave us an envelope with a page of pieces that had little words on them that we had to cut out. She told us that today was all about opposites. We had to make a hexagon  and then read the sentence on the outside.

When we got started I thought that it was going to be really hard, but It was actually not as hard as I thought. Some of the other groups were struggling and some of them were smashing it. I think we were in the middle. We finally finished. The sentence said, "The killer did not play a instrument that you have to blow into."  I was so happy. This had been a really fun workshop.  

Workshop

Today I had a reading work shop. I was actually quite exited because I had moved up a level. I arrived at the workshop I sat down and started to listen she said we were going to work on monitoring our reading. That didn't sound to hard to me.

She gave us a book to read. She said to whisper read so you could check if you were making any mistakes. I don't think I was making any mistakes but you never know. 

After we had finished reading the book she told us we had done really well because this was a new level but to be honest I didn't find it much harder then the other level.  

Old soccer balls galore

 

On monday last week we had an idea. Our idea was that we would hydro dip an old soccer ball and then write like don't touch the little blue penguins nest. The trusty orange

 This week we learnt about volume, capacity and stuff like that. I thought it was really fun witch is why i'm going to share it with you through my blog

Penguin fun

 It was wednesday but not just an ordinary wednesday we were going to work on our penguin inquiry. Our penguin inquiry is a 3 way focus were we get to choose a life size drawing of a penguin or a diorama or a story book of a Penguin. You had to do the life size drawing and the diorama in pairs and the story book in 2s or 3s.

Me and Archie got together and decided to do the life size drawing. To my suprise not many people wanted to do the life size drawing. We got up and grabbed our art supplies to have a go at drawing this Penguin. We chose the Little Blue Penguin to draw.

We chose the little Blue Penguin because we thought that this would be the easiest because it was the smallest. We filled in our files in and then practice drawing the penguin it was so much fun and I cant wait till we do it next.  

 

 

   

Penguin who turned into a man.

 Hi my name is Harry and today I'm going to be telling you about my poem that I wrote about a penguin who turned into a man. This poem was really fun to write so that's why I'm sharing it with you. Some of these sentences can be a little random because we had to use 3 different types of sentences stoppers.  Here it is.

I woke up one day and wanted to go and play.

I slid across the ice but is it really that nice?

I needed to go for an exam but wait I'm turning into a man! 

I started to grow hair absolutely everywhere!

I started to get tall, what a change from being so small.

I always looked forward to being a man so I could could cook some ham on an a pan. 

ORANGE

On monday we were due to go to a strand workshop.  Usually strand workshops can be a little boring because there are so many people there and you hardly ever get to share your ideas but this week it was different.

We arrived at our workshop all ready to get started on our maths but then we realised that koka ngaire had a book on the board. We were all confused but then koka ngaire said that we were going to look at the difference between volume and capacity.

Once we had read the book witch was all about volume and capacity we got a pot and filled near the top with water then we placed a orange into the water. The water rose but then when we took out the orange out of the water  the water went back down. Eventually someone from our group said that we should measure how far the water rose and dropped and rose. The water rose and dropped 3 cm. This work shop was so much fun I hope we can have another one like this.  

Purple sunrise.

321 go. Koka Pip pressed start on the recorder. We started making our smoothie, but before we go any further I will show you the recipe.

Purple sunrise

Materials, smoothie blender,1 cup

Ingredients 2 cups mango frozen,4 rings pineapple fresh,2 handfuls mix berry frozen, 2 handfuls strawberry frozen,300ml milk.

Step 1. Firstly pour in 300ml of milk into your smoothie maker.

Step 2.  Next add 2 cups of frozen mango.

Step 3. Then add 2 handfuls of mixed berries

Step 4. Next mix up all of your ingredients using your smoothie blender.

Step 5. Lastly, garnish with your fresh pineapple rings.

Now that I've finished showing you the recipe I will carry on with what I was saying before. I poured in the  milk. Then Archie poured in the mango. Once Archie had put the mango in I realised that we weren't going to fit all of our fruit in, so we had to change up our recipe, but in the end it all worked out well apart from the bit when I put the pineapple in the smoothie when it wasn't supposed to.

Get your waddle on

 Hi my name is Harry and today I will be telling you 1 thing that I've learnt this week. My highlight this week was our penguin inquiry. We draw a grid and then put threats to the blue penguin in them.

The aim of the game was to get to the sea  and back without touching a square that a threat was in. It was a lot harder then I would of thought because you had to waddle like a penguin plus Koka Rozie kept adding more threats to the grid.

I was one of the first people to get out but I didn't mind because it was just as fun watching. I think that Neko was the best at the game because he had a really good penguin waddle and hardly ever touched the squares with the threats. That game was so much fun and I really hope we can play again.  The game taught me all the problems and difficulties that the blue penguin was going through in its daily life.

This is a slide presentation of the year 5s week. The reason its only year 5s this week is because the year 6s are on camp. We did lots of fun things witch you will see in my slide.

Yummy kumara

The bell rang, everybody ran back to their classes like we would usually do. Except it wasn't a usual day, it was Action day. Everybody in the school has an area to work on for Action day because we are  wanting to become a green gold enviro-school. Anway, our classes (MLH 1 & 2) responsibility is to weed the class gardens,  and we also have to harvest the kumara and pumpkins. But first, we had to think of reasons why growing your own food is better than buying it from the shop ( we came up with lots of reasons).

 At about 9.30 we got out to the gardens. The teacher spilt the class into little groups. I was in the kumara harvesting group, but after about fifteen minutes we had to swap over. I was quite disappointed because harvesting the kumara was really fun. Soon, everyone got bored of harvesting kumara and went to weed the other bit of the garden but me and Olly stayed. But after a while more people joined us. Shortly after, I went over and started weeding. The weeding was fun but very hard work. I was starting to get tired, then the teacher said "brain break". After brain break we were working with Kodi.

Kodi is pretty much just someone who goes around to schools and talks about enviro and stuff like that. With Kodi we learnt about sustainable communities,empowered students and lots of other thing along those lines. I really enjoyed working with Kodi. After morning tea we carried on with our weeding and harvesting kumara and pumpkins. Then, it was lunch.

After lunch, we went straight to the gardens and carried on with what we were doing before. Soon there no more kumara or pumpkins to be harvested, so everybody worked on the weeding. At about 2.50 we all packed up our stuff to go home, it had been such a fun day.

 I woke up in the morning,I wondered what day it was?It was Wednesday but it wasn't just an ordinary Wednesday It was the first day back at school this year. Then I got my lazy body out of my bed and got dressed.Once I was dressed I went to go and have my breakfast.My Mum was already up. Once I had eaten my breakfast of weetbix I went and did my other jobs to get ready. Soon we were in the car. When we got to school I got out of the car and said goodbye to my mum. Then I walked over to my new class room. My new classroom is moana learning hub. I was excited to be in a new class room with new teacher and kids.

When class started I was felling nervous. Every morning this year we had been going swimming and doing quick writes witch is a big change for me. My teachers names are koka Rozie (I had her last year) Koka Pip and koka Ngaire. 

In week 2 are whole school walked down to the Hamanatu steam because we were walking are pepeha. We also In week 2 walked up Mangaroa witch is in our pepeha as well.

It is now week 4 and we have a new task tracker for this year, we also have started to do blogs (I am doing one right now). Every friday we do lots of fun games and art and stuff like that ( Witch I love)

Surfing a perfect bank

 I got into my wet suit as quickly as possible. I grabbed my surfboard and ran down the beach, the surf was pumping at Loisels, a paradise up the coast. I started to paddle out. As I was paddling out, Archie got this really good wave and surfed it really well. I was soon out the back, most of my friends were out already. After about 2 mins of waiting, a good wave came though and I was in good position for it ...

I caught the wave, went along it for a little while and then did a nice cutback and then I did a big floater at the end. If your wondering what a floater is, that's okay because I'm going to tell you right now. A floater Is pretty much just going up to the wave and then coming back down. I paddled back out again only to find that the bank had gotten even better!

I caught my next wave pretty much straight as I got out the back, however it wasn't a very good one. I was getting really good waves all morning but then it got to high tide, so I went back in. But after A while I went back out again because it was more low tide by then. I was soon out the back, my first wave was a really good one and so were all of the others after that. 

I didn't go back in until about 2 o'clock. I was lucky that I didn't stay out for much longer because when I got back in I found out that we were leaving. I said goodbye to all of my friends and then we were off home. It had been such a fun weekend - bring on the next good swell!
